With decades of international experience, STRABAG International delivers tunnel construction and underground works for transport, energy and infrastructure projects worldwide.
Our services range from conventional and mechanised tunnelling to pipe jacking, microtunnelling, waterproofing and shaft construction.

Mechanised Tunnelling

We deliver mechanised tunnelling projects using tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and shield machines in hard rock, soft ground and other challenging geological conditions. Depending on the project-specific and geological requirements, we deploy a range of TBM technologies, including Earth Pressure Balance (EPB), slurry shield and other pressure-controlled tunnelling systems.

Conventional Tunnelling

Tunnel construction using drill-and-blast methods, mechanical excavation equipment and conventional tunnelling techniques such as the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
Our services include excavation, material handling and the installation of primary ground support systems, including steel ribs, lattice girders, rock and soil anchors, and sprayed concrete lining.

Pipe Jacking and Microtunnelling

We have more than 40 years of experience in pipe jacking and microtunnelling. Our services cover the trenchless installation of pipelines and underground infrastructure under a wide range of geological and spatial conditions. We employ advanced microtunnel boring machines (MTBMs) and specialised pipe jacking systems to meet project-specific requirements. An in-house precast pipe manufacturing facility in Malaysia supports our projects with high-quality products and a reliable supply chain.

Pipe jacking and microtunnelling are used for a wide range of underground infrastructure applications, including water and wastewater systems, pipeline crossings, energy infrastructure, utility networks and culverts.

Waterproofing

Installation of waterproofing systems and tunnel waterproofing solutions as part of underground construction projects and long-term asset protection. We offer installation services for waterproofing in accordance with current technical standards and high-quality lining systems worldwide.

As a certified installer, we create impermeable barriers that prevent water intrusion in all kinds of infrastructures, environmental protection, water management and roofing systems.

Shaft Construction

Construction of vertical tunnel shafts and access structures is necessary for underground construction projects. Depending on project requirements and geological conditions, we use shaft sinking methods, raise boring and TBM-based solutions.

Raise boring is used for deep shafts in stable ground and can achieve diameters of up to 6 m and depths exceeding 1,000 m, while shaft sinking methods are applied where depths are limited and geological conditions are less stable. We also provide inclined shaft TBM tunnelling for hydropower and infrastructure projects, ensuring efficient excavation and integration into tunnel systems and underground works.
