Precast Production

Crafting quality precast solutions for your vision

Sustainability and a conscious use of existing resources is becoming an increasingly important and sought-after aspect in construction. Keeping one’s ecological footprint as small as possible is more than just a moral obligation – and this development has led the STRABAG Group over the years to expand their business in establishing manufacturing plants for precast concrete parts. Two examples in our international construction business: UK and Malaysia.

Precast production in the UK

The production of over 83,000 concrete tunnel segments for HS2 has commenced at a newly established facility located at Hartlepool docks.

Situated within a unit formerly used for oil rig fabrication, the facility boasts state-of-the-art automated segment carousels and reinforcement halls. Robots controlled by telemetry fabricate high-quality reinforcement cages for each segment. With excellent transportation links via road and sea, and the adjacent rail head revived by the STRABAG team, the facility makes efficient logistics possible.

Employing over 100 individuals, including new apprenticeships and recruits from the local area, the facility supports the local economy. Leveraging the local supply chain, STRABAG sources aggregate from nearby quarries and uses recycled steel from the UK.

Over 83,000 precast tunnel segments will be produced for HS2, contributing to the construction of the Northolt Tunnel East and the Euston Tunnel. These segments will build 3.4 miles of twin-bored tunnel for the Northolt Tunnel East and 5 miles for the Euston Tunnel. Each segment ring, with an 8.8-metre outside diameter and weighing seven tonnes, is integral to the project’s success.

Precast production in Malaysia

In 1997 Ed. Züblin AG established a branch in Singapore under the name of Ed. Zublin AG. Singapore Branch and subsequently established a factory for the production of precast concrete segments and reinforced concrete pipes in Thailand.

Recognising the necessity for pipes and segments in infrastructure projects in the Asia Pacific region, the company established a new factory in Malaysia in 2015 for the production of precast reinforced concrete elements under the name of Züblin Precast Industries Sdn. Bhd. The factory is located in Kota Tinggi in the state of Johor only 50 km from Woodlands, Singapore. The state-of-the-art factory can produce elements with a service life of over 100 years. The company’s own design department has the capacity to design a diverse range of precast concrete products which conform to all international standards.

Although the business has evolved through several companies and over many years, the ZÜBLIN brand is well established and synonymous with excellent quality and service whilst developing and optimising new production processes.
