Education City, South Site Utility Tunnel

Essential infrastructure below ground

Just 10 metres beneath the surface of Doha's Education City lies an 8,8 kilometres utility tunnel. Planned and constructed for Qatar Foundation, it creates a central underground corridor directly on campus. Necessary civil works and associated utilities as portable, firefighting, irrigation and chilled water pipes were also implemented.

The South Site Utility Tunnel took shape through 485.000 cubic metres of excavation, 85.000 cubic metres of concrete, 14.000 tonnes of reinforcement and 270.000 cubic metres of backfilling. Stretching across 785 construction blocks, it weaves together a vast network of SCADA system, water, chilled water, power supply and telecommunication infrastructure. This is enabled by over 103 kilometres of pipes, cable trays and ladders in total.

Following completion, all phases were certified by the client.  The readiness of every system was confirmed through testing and pre-commissioning.
