Extension and Strengthening of Container Terminal in Port Louis, Mauritius

Midlands, Mauritius

The project is considered by the Mauritian Government as the 'life line' of the island being located in the Indian Ocean, approx. 3,000 km east of the coast of Africa with population of around 1.2 million people.

The project was staged in four different sections to enable MPA to keep the port operational and to facilitate the supply and shipment of goods without any interruption.

Stage 1 (extension part) with a total length of 244 Meter contained the new berthing quay founded into the sea bed on tubular steel piles and sheet piles (combi-wall), the concrete capping beam, wharf furniture and the relocation of 3 container cranes. This first stage also included the extension of the container yard, the construction of one substation, one amenity block and the high and medium voltage network and high post lighting of the yard.

The works in stage 2 to 4 (strengthening part) extending to 560 meter in front of the existing berthing structure comprised the removal of scour mattress, installation of tubular steel piles and sheet piles (combi-wall), demolition works to allow the installation of raker piles, earthworks, the construction of a new concrete capping beam and the installation of the wharf furniture.

The completed project was handed over in August 2017.
