Positive news for the STRABAG Group in Chile: Group company ZÜBLIN SpA has been awarded an additional contract by Codelco in "El Teniente" - the world's largest underground mine - with a contract value of around € 80 million. As part of the new project called "Diamante", ZÜBLIN will excavate 3,000 m of tunnel, install the concrete roadway and sink approx. 600 m of shafts in a construction period of around 13 months. This is already the seventh mining contract for ZÜBLIN and its 4,500 employees in Chile.

STRABAG has also achieved initial success with its other mainstay in the construction of wind farms in Chile. The construction of 57 foundations and 55 km of construction roads for the 342 MW "Lomas de Taltal" wind farm in the Atacama Desert, commissioned by ENGIE in 2023 and worth around € 60 million, has reached its biggest milestone ahead of schedule: the construction of all foundations was completed well ahead of the planned completion date in February after a total construction time of just 11 months. The remaining earthworks are currently still underway. Last year, STRABAG had already completed 140 foundations and 100 km of construction roads in South America's largest onshore wind farm "Horizonte" - also in the Atacama Desert. At full capacity, the 816 MW wind power project will generate an estimated 2,400 GWh of electricity per year, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by around 1.2 million tons annually.

"Chile is one of our oldest foreign markets and we have been active there for more than 37 years, particularly in mining. With the wind farms, we can not only expand our business portfolio in Chile, but also make a contribution to the decarbonization of the country, which we are particularly pleased about," says Gerald Zangl, Member of the Executive Board of STRABAG AG, Vienna.
