UUT 2 Ulrikentunnel

Norway

Bergen has been connected to the Norwegian railway network since the 1960s by the 8 km single-track Ulriken Tunnel.

The construction of a parallel second single-track tube significantly increased the capacity on the line to meet the growing volume of freight traffic between Oslo and Bergen and the daily commuter traffic from the eastern hinterland.

In addition to the excavation of the entire tunnel section, the contract also included the construction of a branch cavern with an excavation cross-section of over 280 m², the excavation under operation of 16 cross-passages to the existing railway tube and the construction of a new railway bridge support structure with a length of approx. 80 m.
