Construction of Adam Airbase

A modern airfield for reliable air operations

816.000 cubic metres of earthworks excavation and over 330.000 cubic metres of embarkment filling formed the backbone of this major airfield development undertaken by STRABAG Oman for the Ministry of Defence. A new parallel taxiway, two runway connection taxiways and seven apron access taxiways were constructed to expand airfield capacity and improve aircraft movement. The works also incorporated a concrete apron, an airfield ground lightning system, an AGL substation and a high-mast floodlight network. Extensive pavement works covered aggregate subbase and base course, cement stabilised aggregates, bituminous courses, concrete and reinforced concrete pavement.

Additional aviation infrastructure comprised Fighter Aircraft hangars, an engine test running pad, blast deflectors, aircraft arrestor gear and a net barrier system. More than 15.000 airfield lightning units, approximately 130 kilometres of primary and secondary AGL cabling and 14 high mast floodlights were installed to support safe and reliable airfield operations.
