Alto Maipo Hydropower Project
Chile
This monumental project is located in the heart of San José de Maipo, southeast of Santiago de Chile. Spearheaded by STRABAG SpA Chile, the endeavour boasted a workforce of nearly 5,000 individuals hailing from over 20 nations. Our commitment to excellence resonates through every facet of the project, from meticulous design to precise execution.
Spanning a vast expanse, the project encompassed the design and construction of tunnels, caverns, earthworks, civil structures and hydraulic installations. With a total tunnel excavation of 74 km, including the utilisation of cutting-edge technology such as hard rock TBMs, double shield TBMs, and simple shield TBMs, we paved the way for innovation in underground construction.
At its core, this undertaking reflects our unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship, with a meticulous approach to logistics and a commitment to minimising our ecological footprint. Situated in a remote location, ranging from 820 m to 2,500 m above sea level, our team navigated challenging terrain with precision and expertise.
Highlights of the project included the excavation of two caverns, each exceeding 40,000 m³ in volume, and the extraction of over 3 million m³ of material. With a blend of cutting-edge technology and time-honoured craftsmanship, we will continue to forge ahead to redefine the landscape of infrastructure.
