Al Shaqab Equine Veterinary Medical Centre

Qatar

Setting new standards in equine healthcare

The Al Shaqab Equine Veterinary Centre (EVMC) underwent an extraordinary evolution to become a state-of-the-art equine healthcare facility. Although the shell and core building was handed over in November 2011, completion was not possible at this stage as further guidance from the operator was required.

Originally pre-designed in 2006, the shell and core structure was subsequently reviewed by the newly appointed operator. The existing installations at the Qatar Foundation Campus and available design documentation were assessed carefully. Based on this evaluation, a series of modifications were recommended to guarantee that the centre fully met Al Shaqab's current operational needs and standards for veterinary care.

With a gross floor area of 9.800 square metres, the medical centre consists of a hospital block, laboratory block, breeding barn, quarantine and isolation barn. The centre was reshaped through targeted demolition, alteration and structural enhancements. Additional interventions involved the renewal of doors and windows, metal works and extensive finishing works. Upgraded services facilitated the installation of medical gas systems and the coordination of medical equipment.

As a major equine healthcare institution, the EVMC provides national and international leadership in veterinary clinical and diagnostic services. Research initiatives and educational programs for veterinarians, students and the wider public further promote the health and wellbeing of horses.
