Flood protection for the Greater Muscat area

STRABAG Oman was awarded the contract by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources for the construction of the Wadi Al-Jifnain Flood Protection Dam in Al Khoud, Muscat Governorate. The project was designed to enhance flood resilience and protect surrounding communities and infrastructure from seasonal flood events.

The dam consists of a 6,4-kilometre-long and 22-metre-high earth and rockfill embankment incorporating a 20-metre-deep concrete cut-off wall to ensure watertightness and long-term stability.  

Scope of Work

  • Construction of a 6.4 km long earth and rockfill flood protection dam 
  • Installation of a 20 m deep concrete cut-off wall 
  • Construction of two bottom outlets and two overflow channels 
  • Protection and relocation of existing utility infrastructure 
  • Associated earthworks, hydraulic structures and ancillary works
