Expansion of the 18th of November and Al Mouj roads in Muscat

The project involves the extensive expansion of the centrally located 18th of November Street and Al Mouj Road, two of the capital's main traffic arteries.

Scope of the work

The measure includes the widening of 18th of November Street to three lanes in each direction, the construction of new flyover structures and underpasses and the conversion of existing traffic circles into traffic light-controlled junctions. The aim is to significantly increase the efficiency of traffic connections, reduce traffic congestion and sustainably improve traffic safety. In particular, the project strengthens the connection to Muscat International Airport, the Sultan Qaboos Highway and the Muscat Expressway. The construction project extends over a length of around 8.7 kilometers and will be implemented over a construction period of 30 months from January 2026. With a contract volume of around 102 million euros, STRABAG Oman is taking on the role of general contractor, including selected planning services. The construction work will be carried out while traffic continues to flow and will require complex traffic management with temporary detour.
Modern construction and planning methods such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and LEAN timing will be used to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality implementation. The project represents a further milestone for STRABAG's long-term presence in Oman and underlines the Group's expertise in the realization of challenging transport infrastructure projects.
