Doha International Airport – Duty Free Warehouse Facilities

Enhancing airport logistics with modern warehousing infrastructure

Behind every successful airport operation lies a highly efficient logistics network. The Duty-Free Warehouse Facilities in Qatar were developed to support airport retail operations and ensure a seamless supply of goods.

The project included a duty-free warehouse for Qatar Duty Free and an in-flight duty-free store for Qatar Airways. From the outset, the facilities were customized with future growth in mind. Phase 1 was sized to serve up to 24 million passengers, while provisions were incorporated to accommodate the projected increase to 48 million passengers by the year 2015 in Phase 2.

At the heart of the development is the main warehouse that covers approximately 11.250 square metres excluding smaller annex buildings. A structural steel frame on in-situ concrete foundations, combined with composite steel mezzanine floors, proprietary roofing and cladding systems form the basis of the building. Serving as a central storage hub, it houses a variety of products before distribution to the apron buffer stores in the main terminal. From there, goods are supplied to the various duty-free outlets throughout the terminal.

In addition, a 2.000 square metre ground-floor warehouse was built for in-flight retail products sold on aircraft. Flexibility was a key consideration throughout the design process, allowing both facilities to be expanded as the airport develops.
