Mc Arthur Glen Designer Outlet (Vancouver)
STRABAG Inc. served as the design‑build general contractor for the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver Airport, a landmark open‑air retail destination on Sea Island adjacent to Vancouver International Airport. The project involved constructing over 699,000 sq ft (approximately 65,000 m²) of retail development on airport land in a prime transit location. STRABAG brought its international expertise in complex retail construction to execute the centre’s core structures to McArthurGlen Group’s quality standards and European‑inspired architectural intent.
The outlet centre was planned as a two‑phase build. The first phase broke ground in January 2014 and delivered more than 240,000 sq ft of luxury, premium and lifestyle retail space in July 2015, arranged in a pedestrian‑friendly, open‑air village style with cobblestone walkways, luxury piazzas, varied façades and references to local architectural character. STRABAG’s work included complex coordination of building structure and finishes to accommodate both international fashion brands and integrated public spaces.
While maintaining full operation of the existing centre, STRABAG and partners executed the Phase II expansion starting in 2018, adding approximately 84,000 sq ft of retail space and up to 35 new stores to the east end of the outlet. This extension mirrored the original European village design and created additional luxury piazzas and streetscapes, allowing the outlet to grow its tenant mix and enhance visitor circulation
