A Key Project in the Transformation of Chuquicamata

Situated in northern Chile, the Mina Norte project forms part of the long-term transformation of the Chuquicamata copper mine from an open-pit operation into a modern underground operation. Two major contracts were awarded by Codelco to STRABAG subsidiary ZÜBLIN and are scheduled for completion in 2031.

This mine project comprises the construction of more than 54 kilometres of tunnels and related underground infrastructure required for the future operation of the mine. The underground development is intended to extend the operational life of Chuquicamata for several decades while contributing to improved environmental performance.

With approximately 1.200 workers involved, Mina Norte is one of the largest mining construction projects currently underway in Chile and represents one of ZÜBLIN’s most significant mining contracts in the country to date.
