Chuquicamata Underground Mine – Mina Norte
STRABAG subsidiary ZÜBLIN has been awarded two major contracts by Codelco for the Chuquicamata Underground Mine “Mina Norte” in northern Chile. The project is part of the long-term transformation of Chuquicamata – the world’s largest open-pit copper mine – into a modern underground operation, with completion scheduled for 2031.
The scope of works includes the construction of more than 54 kilometres of tunnels as well as associated critical underground infrastructure. The project will extend the operational life of the mine for several decades while contributing to improved environmental performance.
With approximately 1,200 workers involved, Mina Norte is one of the largest mining construction projects currently underway in Chile and represents one of ZÜBLIN’s most significant mining contracts in the country to date.
